Check Out the Samsung Galaxy Tab II and Galaxy S II

Samsung will be debuting its new mobile devices in Barcelona today, and a few photos of the tablet and smartphone have leaked. Will the larger tab be a tough competitors for the iPad 2?

Samsung seems to have learned from the lukewarm reception its mini-sized Galaxy Tab received last year, because the new Galaxy Tab II is closer to the dimensions of Apple’s iPad. Samsung is showing off the Tab II and Galaxy S II smartphone at today’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

So what’s the news on the new Galaxy Tab? The Tab II sports a 10.1” screen with 1230×800 resolution and a 1GHz processor running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It’s rumored to have NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor, a TFT display, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. That’s pretty similar to the specs for the Motorola Xoom due later this month, and an improvement on the smaller Galaxy Tab.

But does the full-sized Galaxy Tab II have anything special to set it apart from the stiff competition arriving this year? The tablet is also rumored to have an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording, but that’s not likely to be unique.

The Tab II is supposedly about 200g lighter than the original iPad along with a larger screen. Of course we’ve also been hearing for months that the iPad will be slimmer and lighter than the current model.

Last year’s Samsung Galaxy Tab reportedly sold about a million units, but seems to have fizzled in just three months and is already being sold at discounted prices. Will the newer, bigger Galaxy Tab II meet a similar fate?
